Inspired by cartoon fodder, Mouse and Kelley created the image for the Grateful Dead’s 1972 European Tour. The enigmatic design is widely recognized but not completely understood. Of the Kid’s return 40 years later, Stanley Mouse opines:
“Trouble comes in many flavors.
Ice Cream Kid is in hot water.
The jury is out.
His only defense is love.”
The legend continues as we find the Kid celebrating his 40th anniversary. Stanley has returned to his airbrush roots to produce this modern day classic.

Ice Cream Kid/Europe '72 album art
It was spring of 1973 and a bunch of us were hitchhiking to Allegheny State Park.(Pretty Safe back then.)(Leaving Niagara Falls in groups of two on the good ole New York Thruway.)Stopped to pick up a friend at his apartment near the Thruway and he had just purchased Europe 72 and was blasting those sweet sounds on his stereo. We knew the Dead's music was changing into something even more wonderful!Fell in love with the artwork on the album and was even lucky enough to get a shirt in San Francisco with Ice Cream Man on the front and the Truck'in design on the rear a few years later!Back then things were different-you just didn't sit at your computer and order any shirt your little heart desired-if you couldn't find it at the show you may be out of luck.Same thing with new releases either wait until your local record store got it or your friend got it or catch it on the FM radio!Anyway just an old timer reflecting on the good ole days....hope I didn't bore anyone!LOL!
not at all amvenute
Nice story. My vote goes to Stanley Mouse for the next Dave's Picks artist.
