    My very first Dead show was
    My very first Dead show was December 1981. I think, in fact, that this along with Reckoning were the very first two Dead LPs that I had actually bought. Looking back, after around 200 live shows and hearing EVERY dead release a hundred times over (at least), I honestly think that I can say that these two LPs (Dead Set & Reckoning) are the Dead's two very best official releases ever. Not including dick's picks, let's say LPs released in Jerry's lifetime. Without a Net is close as well, but something about dead Set and ABSOLUTELY Reckoning that is so, so special. The songs chosen were very special... Loser live!!! we get a "SPACE" making it an official piece of music from here on out. The Fire is mind boggling and to end the LP is Brokendown Palace, a true masterpiece and maybe my favorite Dead song of all time. Tied with one or three others like Brown Eyed Woman, Stella Blue, Terrapin and a couple others. but Brokedown Palace can make me cry any time.. Along with Dead set is reckoning- an acoustic MASTERPIECE that should have won grammy after grammy after grammy. But we all know that is rigged. Just thought I'd mention that I'll always remember the Dead as they were in 1981. How they looked (Bob thin and fit and Garcia thin and with still only a true touch of grey) Brent with long hair. and the way they sounded. 100% analog playing songs like Lazy Lightning, High Time, Brother Esau, etc... They would never be as good ever again. I LOVE the GD and I LOVE the analog years when they would bust their asses playing from the heart. a Shakedown Street from 1981 or Help/Slip/Frank from '83 will never EVER be beat. So listen and treasure it. And if you were there, consider yourself blessed like a disciple! You witnessed true magig)
