    L Fraser

This thread was wonderful to find. I have the same sketch, bought for $5.00 at Alpine back in the late 80’s (I think), and remember meeting Larry. Very nice person, and I have kept it framed and hung since then!

    solved!
Sad to hear he has passed, never knew him but I bought this after the 3rd Worcester centrum show 1987. It was a Hard, cold rain falling so didn't stay to chat but have cherished this poster for years and recently wondered about the artist and if he had ever done other band members' portaits. Of all the hundreds of other sketches, paintings and rendering of The Man this has kept the vitality of so many Dead experiences and the love alive for so long. Kept meaning to research this a bit more and obviously forgot until today! Thanks for posting the information.

Pencil Sketch of Jerry by L Fraser
I was a close personal friend of the artist L Fraser in the 90's. Larry is what the L stands for. L Fraser passed on around 17 years ago. He was a great guitarist and songwriter also. He shared the stage with Rick Danko several times, and had a knack for sometimes getting in the "inner circles" of some cool people. L and I were actually in several bands together, and it was always a fun time. He also had a knack with designing album covers and flyers for local shows. He was fond of playing covers of people like Bob Dylan, Marshall Tucker Band, JGB, and of course the Dead. My vote for most missed guitarist in my life. The interesting thing about this pencil sketch is that only certain people can see the energy that he drew into it. L gave me a copy of the picture in the mid 90's but darn it- I left it at a friend's house that I had been living with. Oops!! Miss ya L.

It's hard to see; if you retake a few pictures, facing forward & close-up, I would be able to give you my opinion. From this angle, I can't judge proportion.

I met this guy at Alpine Valley, WI. It was in the early 80's. He had a bunch of different sketches and I showed my brother this. He bought it for $5.00 and had to have the pencil smudges cleaned up and sealed, because it was obviously recently drawn. It is 19" x 25". My brother later gifted me the piece. Love It!

I have a copy of this exact same poster by Larry Fraser which I acquired at an estate sale in North Carolina. The homeowner as I understand it was a print maker and photographer earlier in his life. I doubt it but maybe it's the copy that you left at your friend's house? I haven't seen this print available anywhere else online. I actually plan on listing this for sale sometime soon on eBay if anyone is interested.

Thanks for your reply. It's great to hear there is energy around this topic. I really don't think that it's my copy in North Carolina. It was in New Jersey that I left it hanging on the wall. Hope you get/got a good price for it and just hold on to it and enjoy!
