Just like your favorite jam, things are going to get a bit funky on Dead.net over the next week or so. Community accounts will be temporarily closed October 16th-17th and may be under further maintenance through October 22nd. But rest assured, we will be back up and better than ever shortly thereafter. Stay tuned!
Sketch Pad - The Making Of July 1978: The Complete Recordings
No paint-by-numbers here! Cartoonist Paul Pope and Art Director Steve Vance painstakingly put together the beautiful box that is JULY 1978: THE COMPLETE RECORDINGS. Take a closer look at some the drafts that may or may not have made the cut.
Watch this space in the coming weeks for more reveals.
Take a look at the July 1 & 3, the booklet, and packaging sketches here.
Weird how the organizer's name was Sunshine!
Weren't the Grateful Dead supposed to play at Summerfest in 1978? The sketches of the can just reminded me of that. They ended up getting rained out or something, right?
-edit- Ah, the miracle of Google answered my question... https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1368&dat=19780703&id=JtQVAAAAIBAJ...
Really great to see the process of the artwork. Definitely makes me appreciate how much work goes into to all the releases a little bit more.
Would love to see some other merch associated with this release
Love the art, love the idea of including sketches, and being from KC originally, love the images of Arrowhead!
Love love love.
It would be interesting to see a video / interview with the artist and art director...
Very cool to see these sketches and progress drawings! As an artist and illustrator, myself, I am loving this reveal.
Keep em coming guys!
