    Beautiful jam?

Leading into the Uncle John's jam (which is remarkable) I hear hints of the Beautiful Jam that would emerge full blown in February 1971

    Rochester War Memorial

Yes, the boyz often brought it when in Rochester, and up state new york generally. I attended every war memorial showed from 76-82, and for me this 85 show is why I got off the bus. The other one does not last as long as a bathroom break, Miracle was always a major bummer, usually signalled the end of the interesting parts of the show, and the time to hit the parking lot to beat others out! Vocals that border on shrill shouting. I mean the 76 show has the great double slip-knot, 77 the high energy opening 2ed set Phil jam in Eyes, even the '80 show had a nice melodic jam into a slow Iko. This, meh! (But the other two selections make up for it, tasty!) Phil seemed to like to turn it up in Rochester, I remember the 79 Hollender show, outside (first east coast outside show since Englishtown), where Phil was totally cranking it. Ah well, fun times!

    Fun Times by the Lake

Always loved Rochester shows- funky venues and the boys always brought it. 11/8/85 was high energy with a bunch of minor oddities that combined for one of my favorite shows: the Brent verse in Rooster, Baby What you Want, late set Jack Straw, Revolution, Satisfaction and yes, the best She Belongs to Me. Nothing eye popping on paper, but taken as a whole experience a treasured gem from the road.
And yeah... the other selections this week are legendary-Bring on the Harding Theater with the Full Norman!

Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have music from 1969, 1971, and 1985, three very distinct periods in Grateful Dead history.

Our first selection this week is from 11/7/69 at the Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco where we have this stunning sequence of Dark Star > Uncle John's Jam> Dark Star > Cryptical Envelopment> Drums> The Other One> Turn On Your Love Light. The next night, released as Dick’s Picks Vol. 16, features an equally exceptional second set sequence.

Next is music from the first night of a two night run at San Francisco’s Harding Theatre on 11/6/71, featuring Playing In The Band ; Cumberland Blues ; Black Peter; Beat It On Down The Line; Deal.

Finally this week is the show-ending music from 11/8/85, the last ever Grateful Dead show at Rochester’s War Memorial, featuring Space > The Other One > I Need A Miracle > She Belongs To Me > Sugar Magnolia, (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.

Be sure to stop by next week for more music from the vault.

Thanks Dave! I was at both shows in Rochester and were very memorable performances for me especially "She belongs to me". Hoping for official releases someday.
