Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have music from the first five years of Brent's tenure with the band, 1979 to 1984.
We'll first make a stop in Easton, PA, on 5/7/79, Brent's first tour with the Grateful Dead, at his fifth show. We don't have a complete tape from this show, but we do have some decent chunks, including this post-Space sequence of Not Fade Away>Black Peter>Around and Around. A couple of things to note: the Not Fade Away comes in at the end, where the tape starts, and that's John Cipollina sitting in on guitar.
From two years later, on 5/16/81, we have the start of the first set from 5/16/81 at Barton Hall at Cornell University, the third and final show at Cornell. From this great venue, we have Feel Like A Stranger, Friend Of The Devil, Me and My Uncle>Big River, Althea.
Our final stop this week is in 4/21/84 in Philadelphia, the final night of a three night run at the Civic Center Arena, and the final show at this venue before the Dead would return to the Spectrum in 1985 for the next decade as their indoor Philly venue of choice. From this show we have the post-Drums sequence of Space>Wharf Rat>Throwing Stones>Not Fade Away.
