Tapers Section By David Lemieux

Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have Grateful Dead music from 1969, 1984, and 1986, with three versions of The Other One, one of the longest tenured songs in the band’s repertoire, present consistently from 1967 to 1995.

Our first stop this week is at Purdue University in Lafayette, IN, on 4/18/69 where we have this unique and excellent sequence of Cryptical Envelopment > Drums > The Other One > Cryptical Envelopment> Sittin' On Top Of The World > King Bee.

Next up is music from Rochester, NY, where the Dead always seemed to play well, on 4/16/84, with the end of the show: Space > The Other One > Stella Blue > Around And Around> Johnny B. Goode, Day Job.

Lastly this week is the entire second set from 4/19/86 at the Berkeley Community Theatre, where we have Crazy Fingers>Playing In The Band>Drums> Space> The Other One> China Doll> Playing In The Band> Sugar Magnolia.

Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.

Space The Other One Stella Blue

Spring 1984 , beautiful

"Escaping through the lily fields I came across an empty space"

I was watching NHL game last night and Winnipeg slapped in a one-timer just as it was leading into Stella Blue. Great goal and good timing. Buzz kill for the fans in yellow. Made it 3-1 for the blue team. I was outside and had an excellent view of the boob tube

"The sky was yellow and the sun was blue"

The shows from 1984 are really awesome.

I love Donuts yumm

How are the donuts in state of Washington. I hear they are quite the growers out west , but I have not heard any raving about their delicacies

not the longest set, but it is a tasty morsel of GD.

sometimes you don't need a pizza; you are happy with a doughnut.

I really like this second set from 4/19/86.
It's a favorite 80's Playing in the Band, also any second set with Crazy Fingers and China Doll is gonna do it for me.
It's not here, but the Quinn encore is also quite nice.

I'm not familiar with the '69 show - time to hunker down with that.
Thanks Dave.

Wow !

These 3 should be fun this week. I almost always check these out outside while the sun is setting and the moon is rising. I have not heard the 1969 or the 2nd set 1986 selection.

I really hope at some point this summer Dead and Company perform "Crazy Fingers" , "High Time" , and "Victim or the Crime"
