    The Security in the lot was so bad at the first two shows, beating heads up for standing around in the lot, it was crazy. I gave my tickets up for the next three nights, traded for Steel Wheels later in the month at Shea. Steel Wheels was great a nice Dead Flowers every night. Rival promoter Bill Graham, who also bid on the tour, later wrote that "Losing the Stones was like watching my favorite lover become a whore."

Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have Grateful Dead music spanning more than 25 years, covering three distinct periods in the band’s music.

Our first selection is from the home-town Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco on 10/13/68, where we have the sequence of music that was in the midst of being perfected for the Live/Dead recordings a few months later: Dark Star>St. Stephen>The Eleven>Death Don't Have No Mercy.

Next is the start of the second set from the first show of a five night run at Meadowlands Arena in E. Rutherford, NJ, where we have China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider; Estimated Prophet ; Terrapin Station.

Lastly this week is music from the final Grateful Dead run of shows at Madison Square Gardem, on 10/15/94, featuring the entire first set: Shakedown Street ; Little Red Rooster ; Stagger Lee ; Black Throated Wind ; Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues ; Candyman ; Easy Answers> Deal.
