Sorry, been inactive on this site for too long. I came across an interesting fan opportunity for all but I have been unable to post anything except here. All forums seem to not allow me to post any content. What am I doing wrong? Even if I can't post, I gotta say I appreciate the tunes here, always have. For the Admins, a link to the information if its allowed, http://kck.st/2N5NTCb Its about a tribute to Winterland in SF, only involved as a fan, but Jarid is an old buddy, who worked with the band and had interesting access. Peace

I'm hearing from some folks that the log-in/password fandango isn't exactly intuitive. When you create an account/register, run back and check the email address you signed up with to get your one time password. Come back, log in with that password, and change it to something you know and love. and if that doesn't work out for you, let us know.

Yeah, I had a hard time finding where to do that, the link in the email doesn't take you to it. You go to "MY ACCOUNT" then click the edit tab, it will let you change it there.

Several people over in DNC report having trouble logging in here. At least one of those is someone who didn't receive the confirmation e-mail after registering. What is the next step if one doesn't receive the confirmation e-mail, or if more than 24 hours have gone by since receiving it? (like, say, finding it later in one's SPAM trap.) katrinka

The password return is pretty prompt. There have been some (but clearly not "all", so don't jump on me all at once, please) folks using non-web-based emails that apparently are not getting the password email. Our own MaryE was among 'em even! If you suspect this is the case, we suggest creating a gmail account (or other web-baesd mail account) just to use here. If you don't get the password within maybe 2 hours, and have checked your Spam, Bulk, Junk, Filtered, and/or Non-Inbox emails (and you don't automatically delete those things.... be careful there), drop a note to me and MaryE at deadnetmods@gmail.com and we'll try to track you down. Would be best, of course, if you used the email address you're trying to register from to send the email to us...

Comcast email is a problem for more than just the dead.net verification. It seems they readily put senders on some sort of blacklist that prevents any of the sender's email to get through to any comcast account. Our work emails are blocked by Comcast. We've pleaded our case to them, but we haven't been able to get ourselves unblocked.

And somewhat beside the point at that, but ... this is how my favorite DNC folder got started -- it was meant to be a place to deal with and give feedback on the login experience. From there it grew into a mighty fine place... Ducking out now - that was your Today In Deadnet History Lesson for June 12 (or thereabouts). :)

The problems with comcast should hopefully be fixed. (fingers-crossed...)

I think the login page should be secure (https), to prevent third-party interception of passwords.

Hi Rick! Thanks for the suggestion, but we are already running Login Toboggan and have been since launch.

saguaroiv, you can change your password from the My Account page, Edit menu. You should have been prompted already to change your system-generated first password, no?

I was never pormpted to change my password either; I did it anyway the first time I signed in so I'd remember it.

How do you check only new messages, and not have to slog through posts that I've already checked out? Even if I click on new post, it takes me to the beginning of the folder. Thanks in adance for any help.

hey now, REK. When you figure that out, let the rest of us know, okay? Just kidding! Really though, the software we're using is currently configured to take us to the top of the folder. It's an all or nothing kinda deal, and we think it'd be harder on all of us to start at the most recent post and have to work backwards to catch everything in a discussion. I believe there is a fix in the makings, to let us just be able to go to the last post that we've seen in a given topic. As stuff like that gets developed, we'll keep you posted either here, or in the FAQs section.

Thanks Izzie. Makes sense if you're checking out a discussion for the first time. If you've already checked it out though, it's kind of like re-reading an entire book to get to the chapter where you've left off. I'll keep my eyes peeled for an eventual solution.

I wanted to add a sentence or two to the "Interests" category in the "Edit" section of "My Account." Apparently, that is not an option...so I ask, why not? I can't possibly be the only person who might want to do that, either now or in the future. There are three options to my dilemma, to wit, (1) That option is there, but for some reason, I was not able to find and/or utilize it (2) It was an oversight by the folks who designed and operate the web-site, or (3) No such option exists, and decision was made on purpose. If you have already purposely decide not to utilize this option, then you should let people know in advance, before they write anything, that it is a one time option, and can never be changed. However, that having been said, kindly consider adding the option to Edit any portion, especially the "Interests" section, which may very well change for anyone at any time. Thanks for your time and your consideration! Love to all! - Cliff

That's very weird. I'll look into it, but as far as I know this should not be happening. Thanks for the heads up.

Shadow, I just went to edit my own Interests and it worked fine. This may be because I have the godlike hosting tools, but in this case I really don't think so. When you click the Edit tab on your profile, you should see three options: Account Settings, Personal, and Terms of Service. The one you want is Personal. Click that, scroll down to Interests, edit, and Submit using the button at the bottom of the page. If this does not reflect what you see, please advise. But it should work.

I logged in with my non-host-account name (which is a great way to see how the site really works!) and it let me edit my interests, or anything else in My Account, just fine. Let us know if this isn't working for anyone else!

Last month (Feb. 2010) I needed to reset my password and it works fine for getting in this far, but when I tried to order from the store, it wanted me to log-in (again...) and the new one doesn't "take". I called the 800 number and the (outsourced?) lady could not help me.

You're da man. I did that - clicked on "new account" - all my info would "pop-down" (?) like it was still there. Ah well, Road Trips Vol. 3 No. 2 is on it's way. Thanks for the help.
