That's it exactly Doc. Just whats needed for a 69 box, after the FW supernova, shows you note, Avalon, Ark, et al first half of the year represent the mature, fully flowered primal phase. Fortunate to have some as downloads, audio issues would resolve with a most welcome update by Norman and crew. Time to revisit FW early June series, been a while.

    Hey rockers!!!!

Next box? Early 1969. From the OSF reels. Will include Vegas from March and the Avalon run from early April. Unless they want to hold Vegas for single release and include the Ark shows instead. Or maybe the February Philly shows? Heck, make it a mega mega box!!!!!

I think the Tower Theater shows from Upper Darby, PA in June of 1976 would make a killer box set! Whether it’s a box set or a Dave’s picks or whatever, I think they deserve an official GD release! Thanks!

hello everyone, just wanted to say that so far out of all my Grateful Dead purchases...the one that i keep coming back to is the historic late April 1971 concert run documented by Ladies and Gentlemen: The Grateful Dead. I would love to see the 5 shows in complete form in an upcoming box set. Thanks

I agree with the earlier poster who was taking some flack for requesting later GD shows in a box set. I too discovered the GD in the mid eighties (Hershey Park, PA 6/28/85, when I was a teenager). I can never forget the sound of the bass and drums that night. While waiting in line to get in, I swear Phil was making the entire stadium shake with the most incredible bass lines possible this side of the other world. It was a Siren song played on the bass. Incredible. How my naked ears were tortured! But I digress. Is anyone still with me in the Phil Zone? One of the things that kept me interested in the GD during my teens years in the Big Hair era of pop was the quality of their recordings. I love "Without a Net" and "Dylan and the Dead." Mock me; I don't care. While it is indesputeable that 1977 was a peak year of the GD (especially for Jerry) and that I greatly prefer Keith to Brent, I still love the sound of Phil and Billy and Mickey on the later recordings. On a monster sound system that rythm section sends chills down my spine. As Jerry faded the rest of the band seemed to grow stronger. Perhaps the ebb and flow of the music was replaced by a more constant forward propulsion, but there's no denying the power of it. So take it easy on us younger fans. I save Dozin at the Knick, Truckin to Buffalo, and Going to Nassau for special occasions. Why not make the box sets optional. i.e. Make the individual 80/90s shows available separately -- or boxed in their entirety by venue or date or whim? That would avoid making the expensive box sets the only way to get the music. By the by, I think the "crayon" box packageing is excellent. The poor sound quality on the Road Trip releases has been a constant frustration for me. Bring on the state of the art multi-track recordings from the 80s/90s. Perhaps at some point some of the higher quality recordings buried in the forest of Dick's Picks releases will be revisited.

...the two September '72 Boston Music Hall shows (9/15 and 9/16) PLUS the roosevelt Stadium show (9/19). Why? These shows are from a peak month and year, most of the music does NOT circulate on a quality SBD, and what does circulate is hot.

how about everything from the acid tests!? i dont even care if most of that stuff wasn't recorded. just fucking make it happen. somehow find recordings of everything the dead played at the acid tests and i swear i'll buy it!! also i'd like to see a dark star box set. every dark star. including segues in and out of it. that would be sick. OR.... a box set of all the absolute worst performances of everybody's favorite songs. full of flubbed lyrics, directionless solos. all the stuff where the whole band is off. we've had a lot of box sets where "the music plays the band". now it's time for one where the band can't even play music!!! that would be pretty funny. ok one more: The Dead's first run at Red Rocks (7/7/78 and 7/8/78). I'd love to hear that one in crystal clear sound. it's one of my favorites, for sure. it's also pretty cool because right after those two shows they take a month and a half off from touring and then the first show of the next tour is red rocks again. so maybe the box set would have the next two shows too (8/30 and 8/31). whatever. what do i know? i'm just a doctor...

I've always thought those shows were the moment Jerry blossomed as a lead guitar player. And there was all sorts of fun stuff. It seems like they were brainstorming for the "Live Dead" shows. That would make a killer release. Check Out My Orignal Music at myspace.com/salaversano

I have a feeling that the next box set we see will be another three run cycle at Winterland, just like '73 and '77. This could very well be 12/10 -> 12/12/72 or maybe even 02/22 -> 02/24/74. I'm really leaning towards the latter since the band seemed much tighter on that occassion. Having said that, I really hope this isn't the case. Four box sets from Winterland - '73, '77, GD Movie Soundtrack, and the hypothetical '72 or '74? That's just too much. No matter how great the music was, no matter how classic the arena, another box set from the 1970s at Winterland would really pigeonhole the band further as only being heard/experienced via recordings from this particular era and this particular arena. I already feel like the catalog is top heavy in terms of this exact categorization. I'm with the other posters who strongly advise Rhino to release a run of shows (ANYTHING!) from the 1980s or even early 1990s. Sure, I'd like to see a box set from a run of shows in '93 or '94, but that's not going to happens because the veterans get depressed when they hear this material compared to the hey-day even though the younger generation, like me, knew nothing but this! Like others here, Without a Net, Dozin', Truckin', and the soon-to-be released Crimson resonate most strongly with me and often spend weeks at a time in my CD Changer.

I think it would be awesome if a series of Cds featuring the first live performances of our favorite dead songs was released. Such as the first live performance of sugar magnolia or estimated prophet. The first sugar mag is slower, very rough and slightly out of tune at some points but it is definatly a gem and I'm sure the other first performances are precious as well.

How About a New Years Run or two from Oakland! There were some great shows played there, and who knows maybe you can come up with a DVD from the many great archived shots that were taken during the 80's (when they had the cinemetographer)?_____________________________________________ Will you come with me? Once in awhile you can get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right!

Please release more complete shows that already circulate as A SBD's! Forget about 2/2/69, 2/12/69, 4/22/69, 9/9/72, 9/15/72, 9/16/72, 9/19/72, 2/19/73, 9/15/73, 9/24/73, 11/1/73, 11/28/73, 2/27/77, any of the late April/early May 77 NJ and NY shows, 5/12/77 and 6/4/77 (shows off the top of my head that don't circulate as complete A SBD shows). Give us more stuff that we already have, albeit in slightly better sound quality (A+ rather than A). And please, since we are all making a lot more money and working a lot more than we did 5 yrs ago, when the Fillmore West box set was released for the same price, albeit with 4 more discs, charge us as much as you can. Thanks!

How about a dirty Jersey "not for the feint of heart" box set? All four shows from Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City- '72, '73, '74, and '76 Encased in riveted steel with a sheet of acid. Raw power indeed... Wow... let me catch my breath... LOL Throw in the video from '76. If the 2nd set turns up on video I'd really be impressed!

OK, we know the economy is fooked up for some and I'm one of them...that still does not deter my lusting after killer Box Sets...but wifey would melt-down & nuke me for blowing nearly $100 on some multi-CD box set. You know...budgeting etc. However!! For certain items where there may be a lot in stock (Hint: Warlocks) running a special reduced price or price discount for a couple of days might reduce your inventory a bit and allow some of us financially challenged Dheads to acquire and enjoy lusted after box sets. You know...offer a 20% or 15% discount for two days on selected items or all box sets or whatever and throw in ground shipping...something like that. A little help here, eh? (Hurry, before we all croak of radiation poisoning!)

I've read that originally the Dead Movie Soundtrack was supposed to be 7 discs, but was pared down to 5. I would love to see that 7 disc released. There's some music cut from the original soundtrack. The "Eyes of the World" from 04-19-74 was originally 18 minutes, but 5 were cut out. I would also like to see some of the out-of-print Steal Your Face tracks on here. Like "Sugaree", "Ship of Fools", and "Cold Rain & Snow". Though I know it's not likely to happen (due to Ned Lagin copyrights), the 10-18-74 "Seastones" jam into "Dark Star" > "Morning Dew" would be incredible. In reality, the 7 disc Grateful Dead Movie Soundtrack would be spectacular.

Well, I just heard 2-11-70 with the ABB for the first time - blew me away! Did some research and found a CD issued by Grateful Dead productions some years back of ABB at FE in Feb 1970. How about collaborating with the Brothers to put out a box of complete ABB and GD sets from Feb 11, 13, and 14, 1970? If legal issues get in the way, you could merely collaborate on package design and have the ABB issue their sets on their label. Rhino could then design a box which accommodates the ABB discs as well as the GD ones.

Bring back the Dicks Picks package. I suppose it wouldn't be a box set, but from what other people have said in the past you could buy the whole set (1-36) for like $600? or even just doing bulk packages. like (1-5, 20-25...etc.)

I just wish that the individual sets are consistently available from the site. I have most of them but need few yet. Can't see paying high prices on eBay or now amazon for one 3 disc set when they seem to go in and out of print, every so often. Even would like to know if they have plans on reprinting titles or they are planning on axing certain volumes and keeping them out of print.

It's the first set of two shows at the venue, and several songs from this concert were released on the first '72 live record... including: Jack Straw, Tennessee Jed, and China Cat Sunflower/I Know You Rider.
