    Hitch Hiked for Florida tour
I hitch hiked my way to Florida from 'Cuse in a blinding snow storm for the short 3 show tour. This was the first of the 3. One of my earliest recordings on my Monster Marantz 330D cassette deck which weighed a whopping 25lbs with 8 D cells that had to be changed between each set. It still amazes me I was ever able to sneak that thing into shows. I got to see a lot of 1sts over the years. This Satisfaction & the next nights 2nd set Electric To Lay Me down a first since last played in early 70s were highlights. Tho they did play it acoustically during the 3 set acoustic/electric shows at the Warfield & Radio City.

    El Paso in El Paso
I believe this was the Dead's only performance in El Paso, and they played "El Paso." Remember that taping (much less the Intertoobz) was unknown beyond, say, Brooklyn, so the audience would have had no idea that the Dead regularly played "El Paso." Of course, everybody who played El Paso back then probably played the song, but still. It has to rank with playing "Tennessee Jed" in Nashville in 1972, a real electric moment for locals who were there.

Whole show format this week...1973 video footage?
Dave, I like the format you've got this week; it's almost like a whole show! First set opens with Jack Straw and closes with Let It Grow, then pre- and post-drums segments. Nice choices this week! I'm still hoping for a 1973 video release someday (assuming footage from that year exists?). Did they video 7/28/73 at Watkins Glen? What if all three bands sets plus the 7/27 soundcheck were released on video someday...that'd be epic! Thanks for your generosity!

Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we’ll check out some Grateful Dead music from 1973, 1979, and 1980.

Our first stop this week is in the west Texas town of El Paso, where we have this batch of music from the first set from 11/23/73: Jack Straw ; China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider ; El Paso ; Tennessee Jed ; Big River ; Row Jimmy ; Weather Report Suite Prelude > Weather Report Suite Part 1 > Let It Grow.

Next is the long segment that starts the second set from 11/10/79 in Ann Arbor, MI, where we have this sequence of Alabama Getaway > The Promised Land ; Ship Of Fools ; Samson And Delilah ; Terrapin Station > Playing In The Band.

Lastly this week is the end of the show from 11/26/80 in Pembroke Pines, FL, where we have Space> Wharf Rat> Around And Around> Good Lovin', Satisfaction. This is the Dead’s first rendition of Satisfaction, a song they always played well, and it sounded like they were always having fun playing it.

Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.
