This was a forgettable show. The acoustics at Oakland sucked. It was my girlfriend's first show. She was underwhelmed after all the hype I'd built up. People spinning like dervishes around the perimeter hall of the arena were interesting. We left during drums..

Road Trips, Volume 3, Number 1.I had this show as a very good sounding soundboard CD, sans the One More Saturday Night 2nd encore, it is one of my favorite shows. Now I can have the complete show, and since I ordered early, a compilation bonus disc from the 12/30/79 show, too. Amongst the best Sugaree's makes this show a winner for me. I love the drums >space, too. This Road Trips was released in November 2009.

This show has been on my mind since 79I've been waitin for the release of this show, I got the tape in 85 . was one of the best shows in my 17 year run super high energy, everthing you expect from the Boys and they delivered...

Set 1-Sugaree: 1st solo 1:14-6:17 (including shuffle at end)-lilting, pretty & sad, interspersing sheets of sound with powerful notes, Jerry establishes right away that he means business; 2d solo 7:28-12:05 -Bobby playing counterpoint (slide? A little bit annoying), Jerry playing fast but melodically, beautiful manic yet controlled fanning for about a minute before soothing us at the end with a calm passage; a 3d solo would be asking a little too much but the final verse and chorus are delivered superbly; excellent 16+ minute version -Mama Tried: let’s have a little fun! VG solo -Mexicali: very interesting solo in what could have been a throwaway song if they so desired it, Jerry gives it his all; probably a highlight if the opening Sugaree wasn’t so hot -Row: Bobby’s rhythm and Brent’s delicate touches during the verses are spot-on; slide guitar 1st solo that sounds like Jerry, not bad but I’m not crazy about it; 2d solo-Bobby given the lead for the first 2 runs, choppy notes, pleasant, then Jerry takes over, solid; lyric problems; there’s a really nice tempo with this version, albeit with some hesitations starting and stopping the solos -It’s All Over Now: very good 1st solo from Jerry; Brent allowed to stretch out in the 2d solo, then Jerry takes over and delivers nicely; VG version -High Time: always welcome; either Jerry is out of tune at the beginning or he hits some off notes; not much of a solo but a pretty version -Music: hot jam in the middle, you think it’s over but Jerry has more to say; a highlight Notes: Opening Sugaree and closing Music are hot, Mama > Mex & It’s All Over Now are VG, High Time is pretty, and Row is average. Set 2 -Alabama: 1st solo-Brent takes first ½, Jerry the 2d, nice; really good tempo with Brent and Bobby adding a lot of color; 2d solo-Jerry, each run gets better and faster, very good, Brent takes a few fun runs after Jerry; nice outro too; VG version -GSET: decent solo, Jerry seems to lose his place but with a nice little peak at the end, big Phil booms -Terrapin: opening notes always put me in a reverent mood; pretty little solo; relaxing segue from Lady into Terrapin, riding on a calm wave, a dog with his head out the car window on a Sunday country drive, Eye’s-like; Jerry gets all the words right in this version; VG outro; you can sense the band setting up for Playing, though I don’t hear any hints of the song itself; VG version -Playing: jam- good opening jam, but I’m not crazy about the direction Jerry takes, around 7:45 an interesting development occurs, reminds me of something, hmmm but what? , the band kinda lets it go but not entirely (AUD covers a cut for about 35 secs around the 10:00 min mark), tempo changes around 12:30 mark, spacier, pretty cool outro; VG version -Drums/Space: -UJB: a great choice to come out of Space; good solo; very good jam (another source fills in a cut (SBD cass?) -Miracle: decent, tough to get excited about this song -Bertha: excellent extended solo; a highlight -Good Lovin’: nice solo but Jerry seems to lose himself in the middle, recovers though; solid version -E: Casey: good version -E: Saturday: ok rock & roll Overall: An almost great 1st set, a VG pre-drums 2d set and a less so post-drums that I admit loses me a bit (c’mon-4 of the last 5 songs are Miracle, Good Lovin’, Casey & Saturday). Still, I’d say this is a VG show, 8.5/10

I didn't atttend the show (it would be about 2.5 years before I went to a show), but I have AWESOME memories of listening to this on a mountainside while in a special state of mind :). Terrapin > Playin' is top-notch.

We were right up front for this one and the boys didn't dissapoint . Jerry goes out of his mind on Alabama !! - never saw him more theatrical.He bent down so low he almost fell over. He was grinning the whole time . Followed by a great GSET > Terrapin

I just absolutely love the way the start this Music never Stopped. Feedback and all just ripping
