    Had Backstage Passes
..and ended throwing a football around w/ Bruce and a couple other guys during the break as Bobby watched. I Asked him what Valley Road was about and told him that I thought it was a great tune (it was.) . Have no idea what his reply was..A little starstruck... Both great shows.

    Sweet sweet show!!
This was my second Grateful Dead road trip. I always loved these December Tempe shows and getting out of Colorado to enjoy some warm Arizona weather! "I've stayed in every blue-light cheap hotel. Can't win for tryin. Dust off those rusty strings just one more time. Gonna make em shine."

Bruce sat in and I was so jazzed when they all switched verses on Maggies Farm that I didnt think it would get better. Then at the end of BTW Bruce starts to Jam into Valley Road! At the time I didnt know he just played it in Europe so I thought I was getting a first. Man that song smoked!! BRRRUUUCCEE!

Isn't this the show that Mt St Helens was erupting at the same time. Had GREAT seats in the orchestra pit Bobby really went off late. Bruce was excellent. One of those great old venues that actually still exsists, left to rot in the heat of the AZ sun. 'if the lightnin don't get ya then the thunder will'

My 28th b-,day present was this show. Of course the show was fantastic...but when I think back about that day......One of my favorite memories of this event was as we were leaving. There were some security goons trying to get a very happy man to stop dancing, but the dancing guy was naked and the macho security goons were afraid to touch a naked man. I still smile when I remember them hovering at a distance with blankets, unable to get him to stop. He paid them no mind and he just kept dancing....the music had long since ended. <*>There is not better music than the music of the Grateful Dead!

What I remember, other than the killer tunes, is that the local AZ cops were trying to shut down the vending & actually were taking away a vendor I knew when the tribal police intervened, kicked the cops out & let the vending go on because the venue is on tribal land & so they had jurisdiction. It was awesome!

No Mt. St. Helen's blew in 1980...Thing I remember most was at the end of the show Healy put on Imagine & nobody left right away cause we were all singing it with tears in our eyes it being the 10th anniversary of John's death. www.myspace.com/shivaho www.shivaho.com
