okay maybe I was at this one not the one in 93 thats been disputed,could of sworn that it was 93 but maybe it was 94 "All good things in all good time"-JGB

I dragged my brother to this show, and he couldn't wait to go again. My girlfriend at the time was an easier sell, but it was her 1st show too. Laura wanted the "full" Dead experience, so we tripped (way hard) and totally had a blast. The second set was out of this world!

I hung back with the taper section. Could not figure out whether I wanted to watch the band, the great moon or the Chicago skyline. Lovely.l Let it shine, let it shine, let it shineI

As i write this review , i whistle the BMR that i saw on 7 5 95 in St Louis . I should be whistling the Heavens door from this show This show is probably one of the best days in my 32 years of life . I was 19 , it was my 2nd show . Two days after the strong 7 21 at the Creek . We ran into - this was all planned - into like 5 or 6 friends from Iowa outside before . I had one of my friends' tickets . And he was glad to see me . You can picture that scene . Absolute releif , smiles , good vibes . All I could think of was ? Hell in a bucket ' . I wanted it the way a linebacker wants to flatten a QB well . . during a football game . Anyhow , Picasso satarted off , and soon after began to pick up speed and momentum . And gave in to a ( i think ) the best sugaree in 94 , next to da July 2 Mtnvw . The rest of the set continues good . BE Woman and cassidy shine like gold . And before the 2nd set , those first few notes of Lucy in the sky , made the 60,000 plus folks in chicago ' wake up ' , and react in such a way that was obviously orgasmic . That 2nd set continued nicely into a Terrapin that has to be heard on tape . The transition between playin and Terr is intriguing . I don t hink it ve heard a transition like that since the July 28 1982 show at Red rocks . Awesome versions . D / S and then a very typical post space Other / Rat / Sat PM . O1 was nice . Wharf rat was kindly executed . And Sat PM wasnt bad . But the Heavens door encore was that nice dessert we all needed . Or that after meal cigarette [ a fine one of course ] Thanks GD . Words dont come close to describing what experiences you , and much of the crowd grooving along gave us while on planet earth . Thanx

nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile... I mean where do you start with this show?? The piccaso moon to open, or the sugaree done perfectly, or the minglewood. No I think it was the LSD that blew me away in the second set. I still have tears of joy, being able to hear that one. I didn't hook up with my friends like i was suppose to, and had to stay on the streets that night with my girlfriend at the time and she was NOT happy. Oh well, the brown eyed woman, the terrapin and the other one made the concrete and cold a little more tolarable that night. Sorry Joey we were homeless, but a big thanks to Jeff, who gave me some very clean paper that helped us get over it and make our way to the next nights show.

I was pleased to witness Traffic opening for The Dead on this night. They played a killer set that featured Jerry sitting in on "Dear Mr. Fantasy"!!! As for The Dead, this was one of their best Soldier Field shows. The "Playin'-Terrapin" was absolutly outstanding. Brian Michaelson

3 Great Memories from this show.First--going down to the lake to watch the clouds with friends before the show. Great pre-show vibe all around Chicago. Second--The wave. At some point the wave started going around the entire stadium. Must have made it around three full times. Third--The moon coming up over Soldier Field just as they got into Lucy in the Sky. I still tear up thinking about it.

I rode into this show on a horse, and I was chased out by dragons.

Too many people throw all the Soldiers Field shows together. And the 7.6 million people who claim to have seen last show and DeerCreek 7/2 often wrongly rag on 1994 shows. It wasn't till the last 2 shows of 1995 that the bottom really fell out (3 rivers in Pittsburgh and St.Louis weren't as good as most 1994 shows but surely weren't debacles). The Sugaree was awesome. Sick fan chords and IMO top drawer. Sure it was no 5/5/77 but you would have to look long and hard to find Jerry playing it much better post 1985. The Brown Eyed Woman nailed and passionate. Terrapin Station was superb and jammed out at end. Nailed the Wharf Rat. My favorite Lazy River Road etc. As for the straw man who I will now construct (and does exist) who feels that the dead died with BRENT (may he rest in peace)-- The Jerry Ballads reached their apogee in the final years. Standing on the Moon was far more passionate in 1993 (Check out Autzen 8/21/93 or even Soldier Field 1993) than 1989. And Days Between, Lazy River Road, So Many Roads are all strong- certainly too strong to foresake in favor of pretensions. And the 2nd to last show did have Visions of Johanna. I have let go of the fact that the last show was to have a China Doll (note no Jerry Ballad!) but Weir cut in line with Sugar Mags. Thats it for my rant. I apologize for ranting. But it is the 21st century...

When talking about this show being underappreciated I left off several other strong points- but it was unconscionable that I forgot to include "the Other One"

This night was so wild. I remember a bunch of people had come off the Pink Floyd tour/shows and I was blasted on some green blotter. Probably one of the strangest shows I ever attended. If my memory serves me well, I remember all of these weird circus noises coming out of the PA during the set break, and the place was just buzzing. I don't know if it was Vinces keys or not (or my mood), but I also heard this weird calliope type sound coming from the band, especially during the first set. Then Jerry treated us to a Lucy in the Sky opener in the second set. Wild! All of the songs seemed to be played really well that night too, and the post drumz was vintage to say the least.

What I remember the most, other than the music, is how incredibly hot and humid it was and by samba in the rain I was completely drenched and by the time I would drink something it was exiting my pores. The second and probably more memorable moments came to me with the combination of the Eyes, the video, and the good acid. Another mind opening moment.
