Decided to go, on the day of the show. Weather was still not chill. Buddy with the car was like, "Dude, there'll extra tickets 'cause of the storm," and away we went. Three of us drove three hours for two tickets. Can't remember what our friend did, but unlikely he was bored in a Dead lot.

What a LONG Strange trip these 2 shows were!
Oh My God!!! What a trip! I had tickets to both shows & I was taking my buddy Dave to the show so he could meet up with his girlfriend at the show & they were coming back to Columbus that night. We were jamming to Dead shows on tape & holding on all the way up I-71 until we got to I-90 & had to take a bathroom break. I turn on the radio to hear the show had been cancelled. Man this SUCKED because Dave could not go to the 2nd show he had a wedding to be at the next day. I turned around drove back to Columbus that nite. The weather was scary but we made it all the way to Cleveland & back no problems until we got to our exit off of I-71 in Columbus & as I went to get off my Honda Civic 3 door hatchback went into a spin & all we saw was semis & snow for 3 & 1/2 spins. we came to a stop abutted to the curb in the off-ramp facing north in a southbound exit. After figuring out we were still alive we got turn around & drove home which was less than a mile away. I changed my pants & got a beer & Dave stayed the night & we jammed all night counting our lucky stars we were still alive! The next day I drove to Cleveland for this show and I was not impressed with it but the 2nd set was much better than the 1st. This is a show I will not forget!

I'll never forget the drive from Chicago to Richfield. I have since seen Discovery Channel programs referring to this winter storm as the "Blizzard of the Century". It forced travelers off the roads as interstates were closed. We heard at a rest area that the first night was canceled and we were lucky to get a hotel room. We wandered across the way to the Holiday Inn where hundreds of Deadheads took in the cheesy lounge act who knew no GD songs.I was hoping for a killer show to make up for the hardships we had endured but I was less than impressed with this performance. The debut of IFTL was cool to witness, but then they played it every other show for the rest of the year 8^P

Actually, my first show was cancelled due to the weather. That was one hell of a party at the Days Inn that night though.Highlights for me were Terrapin & Stella.

After enduring the blizzard and ensuing madness, the Dead came out and were lackluster, at best. Scottt said it best, IFTL was cool to witness as a breakout, and got old real quick when they played it to death.

I disagree with the statements above about the show. Having attented several shows in that time period it was a pretty good show. The Terrapin was excellent. TomBanjo

I attended this show as well. Having driven through horrible weather the day before to arrive at a cancelled show, I can honestly say that this was the real beginning of my post-Brent disappointment. The first set to me was total mediocrity with the exception of an ok Lazy River Road and Eternity but nothing too amazing. I remember the second set starting off with what could have potententially been a promising Touch>Samson opener but that was quickly put to rest with Long Way>Corinna. These songs were total auto pilot. Then something amazing happened, The Grateful Dead finally showed up for the gig to perform Terrapin through Stella. For about a half hour they showed up for a few songs but immediately left again at Throwing Stones. To spite the driving and cancellation hassle they spite us by debuting the worst breakout ever. IFTL was like the band was saying FU to us. After the show we got back to the car where our buddy whho had tix for the first night but not second graced us with a suprise. Healy broadcast the show on a radio signal and our buddy recorded it on a boombox with low batteries. He said the show sounded awesome (probably because he listened to it in ssub zero temperatures. On the ride home, we compared the FM recording to the DAT AUD my buddy made and agreed that this show was absolutely atrocious, except the beautiful Terrapin>Jam>Drumz>Miracle>Stella Blue. Possibly the best Stella Blue ever. This was the part of the show that warrented my 2/5 star rating.

Nice clips of the Terrapin, Stella, Throwing, and Lovelight on YouTube. The Terp is the best one I saw live, it's just about perfect: Terrapin 3/14/93 The Stella is really excellent too. Stella 3/14/93

I HAD BEEN ON THE BUS FOR MANY YEARS AT THIS POINT BUT THIS WAS THE FIRST SHOW I TOOK MY THEN GIRLFREIND, LATER MY WIFE TO. I ALSO BROUGHT ALONG ANOTHER COUPLE OF PALS TO THEIR FIRST SHOW. I THOUGHT THE SHOW WAS PRETTY LIGHTWEIGHT UNTIL THAT WHOLE STELLA BLUE TERRAPIN STATION SECTION. FUNNY I HADN'T THOUGHT OF THAT SHOW IN YEARS, IT'S ALL COMING BACK TO ME NOW! THE DRIVE UP FROM CINCINNATI WAS A GAS, IT JUST KEPT SNOWING! DEADGERB!

Only had tix for the first night and made it to Akron to pick up friend before show was cancelled. Back to Columbus that night to attend a party we were to have missed which was fine, but the Honda CRX is not the best at winter travel.A harrowing drive sandwiched between big rigs (some sliding off the interstate) and other idiots not willing to give up and wait it out. Ahh, these are what the good memories are made of... BTW, I made the easiest call ever of an opening song for the next night. Cold Rain and Snow. Too easy, yes, but I still get credit for shooting that barrel-bound fish.

drove up from Columbus in the blizzard... white knuckle the whole way.. only to have the show cancelled. we were in a hotel, not the holiday inn... lots of stranded straight-life families who didn't know what the heck was going on. they kept threatening to kick us out, and i think the cops actually came at one point. i remember we made chicken soup on a hot plate on top of the toilet in the hotel room. we had two rooms and about 15 people or so. At one point my friend waded throught these huge snow drifts to the hotel next door and came back with two giant balloons in each hand. what a riot. we always felt like the IFTL was the band sympathizing with all of us knowing how much we had all been hassled at the hotels... funny how people's impressions differ.

Ahhh my fondess Dead show next to the rainout at Buckeye. The first night cancelled cause of the blizzard. I told my friend Big W. that they would open with Cold Rain And Snow, and they surly did. What was really cool was that 98.5 out of Cleveland aired the entire concert live on the radio. My friend at home recorded it and I still have it in my archives.

After enduring the blizzard the day before this show was very lackluster. After almost crashing into an 18 wheeler on the interstate back to Oberlin College, which magically appeared in front of us I was hoping for a magical night. Turned into a " Let's get back home and get ready for the Capital Center."

Hey Now, Being a passenger for this tour didn't make it much easier and even though I had a mixed time[bad and good] It was a great time over all. The Holiday inn became one of the largest parties [Holidome had tents and a mini shakedown street, through out the hotel people were hanging out, rooms were open filled with fun... I sold about 50 raw[uncooked but still good I ate a few]Burritos for $2 each to supplement my income[got to Rosemont with one ticket and $2, my freinds made the burrito's and I sold 'em, I got 1/2 the money cuase they didn't sell any and new I worked it[had three hot hippy sisters doing a live comercial for my burrito's[and we partied along the way, with a couple stops to the bar of course] it ruled!!] By the way Ally and freinds hope to see you again someday[last time saw any of you three was in GA, wonder if I can get a hold of Ricky he might know whats up wit you,,,] "All good things in all good time"-JGB

We camped out in the lot (hell yeah, one hell of a party!) in our '70 bus, drove to the show and got turned away, thats why we know the band was there and was going to play for anyone who showed up to "fight the law" but "law won" because anyone who did show up got turned away, word on the radio was that the band was there and would play for anyone who showed up but the law wouldn't let us in. On the way home to Buffalo, NY, the front tire of our VW flew off, Jeff went walking down I-90 to try to make it to the next rest area to call AAA and ran into friends of ours from the previous years summer Richfield shows. Yep, miracles do happen.

Ahhhh yes....how can anybody forget the drive up to this show. We came from Windsor, Ont and what normally is a 3 hour trip took about 7 hours (if I can recall correctly). Anyhow, some fellow heads from the area (Terry & Connie) put a whole load of us up for the couple nights we were in town. A very fitting Cold Rain & Snow opened up this decent show. Is there any truth to the rumor that I Fought the Law (and the law won) was played due to the fact that the Dead wanted to play the previous night but local authorities cancelled the concert because of the Blizzard???

LOL I don't remember much about this show, but the day before we spent all afternoon partying and listening to tapes at a friend's mom's house near Cleveland. We didn't listen to the radio or tv, so we didn't know the show was cancelled. Anyhow, we dosed, drove to the venue, and pulling up to an empty parking lot I had a flashback to that scene when the Griswolds show up at Wally World. I couldn't believe it. We ended up driving down the road and going to some bar/pizza joint full of deadheads and had a pretty good time.

This was back when you had to have a Blockbuster membership for each individual location. For the canceled show we braved going back out in the snow storm. I from Chicago and my traveling bud from Milwaukee did not fear the storm so much since there was hardly anyone out there and drove to the closest Blockbuster we found in the phone book, little early for laptops and the internet. I just so happened to be located on Snow Road, I totally remember that. We signed up for a membership, had to explain we were in from out of town for the GD shows with that night's being canceled. We rented a VCP, Video Cassette Player for those that may not remember, and a few flicks which I can't recall. I still have the membership card kept in between the ticket for the canceled show and ticket stub for this night. Back at the hotel we had a stylin' A/V setup going, well ok video but great audio I was a taper and used to bring stereo equipment including a pair nice Kef bookshelf speakers. I used to carry them wrapped in foam sheets in cardboard beer cases, rather have people think that than wonder about the stereo equipment :P. I think we had just about every usable power outlet in use, LOL. For this show I do not recall very much, was up late and partied a bit the canceled show night before. Reading the other comments I want to say this was a super Stella, have to ask a friend if this was the show Jerry really went on like an extended Bobby Estimated and/or listen to the recording.

Lottery got me 1st in line! Happy just to get tix for the (cancelled)13th &14th of March shows, it wasn't till I gotto my car to find out where my seats really were. 2nd row f/13th SNOW show and FRONT ROW for my B-day! Although the band appeared to be going through the motions just to get out of Cleveland, I couldn't be more thrilled to be within a "stone's throw" of "Jehovah's favorite choir"! Routine was broken during IFTL when Jerry was obviously having a ball rhythmically CRUSHING the breaks between verses!!! Even the BEST photos couldn't capture the spirit of emotion!

The Boy was born the previous September and this was his first road trip. My now ex said I could go to the show only if I took her and The Boy along. They would stay in the motel, I would go to the show. Having been through a year that had seen my mother die, me get laid off, and the birth of my son (a stressful, but joyful event), I needed to get back on the bus bad, even if only for one stop. Early in the week, we heard a forecast for a snow storm. We went up the day before the blizzard, got a room at a now forgotten motel, and just hung out until show time. I remember that the sherrif had closed the roads during the blizzard, but Domino's was still delivering pizza. We tipped well. Given that this was my first show in a long time, I may have been extra receptive to enjoying it.All I know was that the stretch from Terrapin through Miracle and Stella gave me chills. The rest of the show I was sitting back smiling. I can still remember sitting in my seat before the show and feeling like a school girl before a date. When the lights went down, I felt a tremendous relaxation ripple through my body. The next day, we stopped at Walmart to get The Boy diapers and they had somebody dressed up like Barney the Dinosauer wandering around. The Boy just about tackled him, grabbed a dino leg, and wouldn't let go. Somewhere there are pictures that will come out at his wedding.

The two shows at Richfield were the first my wife and I had seen since getting married exactly one year before (Mar 14). We had also recently found out that our first child was on the way and would be hearing, if not seeing, the band live for the very first, and as it turns out ONLY time. We got our tickets via mail order, and were traveling down to the shows from Detroit with a group of friends in three cars - one of which was a Honda CRX into which we'd crammed 3-people! It started to snow about the time we hit Toledo, and by the time we were headed east on the Turnpike, it was approaching white-out conditions. We bailed off the highway when a semi coming the other way went down into the median and struck a car that was already there spinning it around and almost into the road in front of us. Once off the highway we moved very slowly toward Cleveland. Now you'd think that SOMEBODY in one of our vehicles would think to listen to the radio to see if the show had been cancelled, but NO, we were listening to tapes, and the Dead NEVER cancelled, right? We pulled into our hotel a few miles south of the venue with about an hour to spare before show time, paid for the rooms we'd reserved, and headed back out onto the road to get to the Coliseum....only to be turned away by a sherriff's deputy who looked at us like the dumbasses we were. We almost stopped at the Holiday Inn, as it looked like a pretty good party, but we figured we'd never get back out of the lot, so we spent a couple of hours getting back to our own hotel. The next morning our friends called home, and were told by their housemate that their home had been broken into, so they left us with tickets to miracle a couple of lucky folks at the Sunday show. Those of us who stayed had a good time. I could have skipped the first set, as it was pretty lackluster, but the Terrapin-to-Stella portion of Set 2 made the whole trip worthwhile. I see that they've got a mega-ticket poster for this show availabe in the GD Store. I'm tempted......maybe I'll check my ticket stubs, and if they match, I guess I'll have to buy it!
