money who needs it...
a line from road runner, and something a lot of deadbeat deadheads could have used, I can't remember when but it's around 88 or 87 when way too many folks would show up in hampton, broke and agressive and gatecrashing. this made the dead have to leave hampton for a while, I hated those guysthey smelled bad and gave deadheads a bad name, I can write about them now cause ain't none of them probably able to afford a computer. Never could stand the "miracle" people..
My first Dead show
And I was hooked....And yes My first sight of Bill Graham in person telling the crowd that if anyone crashes the door again without tickets the Dead would never play Hampton.....
A great memory and show...
No recollection
I was there but have no recollection of the show...probably still thinking about the previous nights Box of Rain
One year in...
5th show in a year since my first. Age 16. We ended up in some hotel the night before and got ahold of something very powerful! It was the same guy from Richmond the year before...all droopy and withdrawn, but friendly and appreciative for the sale..."thanks guys"... . I remember the Wierdness on the vocals when Bobby was trying to say something. Road Runner too...never heard that song before. I think it was this show that Pam and Amy were listening to St. Stephen and singing along to maybe Uncle John's Band!? Fun times...Bob was nuts ...my memory had him up on one of the amps, stage left during Sugar Magnolia just screaming. That might be debatable...but I was there!
Bobby on the amps
Yup, found a video of the show and sure enough Bobby reminded me of Ted Nugent shows in the '70s, running back and forth climbing up and jumping off the amps, and ended up setting on the stage with his legs dangling off jamming his ass off.....and also remember Jerry having a little shitty grin on his face and shaking his head! What's not mentioned is the absolutely incredible Stella Blue, gotta be in the top 5 ever!
