A fun time was had by all. What was up with those weird ceiling panel thingies??Stayed in a bar down the street for so long that when we got back to the parking garage it was closed & we had to bust in to get out. John Law saw the whole thing & let us go after we made good on the broken window...

This era included the shows we referred to as the Grateful Dead Follies -- Bobby wearing a werewolf mask during Werewolves of London some nights, Bobby and Jerry doing their Laurel and Hardy impersonation each night before the encore by pretending that they were stuck as they both tried to squeeze through the "doorway" by the amps at the same time to get back on the stage... whee! Wish I could have stayed on tour another day. This sounds like a great show. The "follies" were apparent for both of the two shows that I saw proceeding this one. Werewolf masks and all!!! God bless the Grateful Dead Rossboy777

I have heard rumours that some of the band had injested pharmecutical mescaline at this show. Something is clearly going on vocally during the second set. It sounds like they were hearing something quite different than what we can hear. Lots of wild fluctuations in the vocals and random laughs from the band. Bobby sounds like he's singing Dancing in the sheets instead of streets at one point. They just seem to be having too much fun

....the band had indeed ingested mescaline on this night, and this is most obvious when listening to the "Dancin" and the "Werewolves" - the most "out there" renditions of these songs ever played by the Dead in my opinion (especially the Dancin) - just listen to it, if you haven't heard it before, and you'll see what i mean!

Their version of Wolves, is one of my favorite toons. You lucky heads! & his hair was perfect, oh! PEACE

I won the nite on the town from the radio station. I learned after coming home at 4AM from the New Haven show. Limo ride from home to dinner. Backstage before and after the show. The gang was wasted that nite!

This is quite a memorable show, considering the environment at the time. A hot set list with the well known Bob in the werewolf antics. The Dead were always creating classics as their regular routine. This tour I also saw Providence and Hartford, Spectrum and Va Tech and William and Mary.

While the music was great, this started out as one of the worst shows of my life. We arrived in "scenic" Springfield ripe with colors. Our seats were about half way back on stage left. My seat was right next to one of the entry ways into the arena. Basically my left elbow rested on the descending concrete wall of that level's entry way. I was situated so I was at eye level with anyone standing in the entry way ... which in may case happened to be a Springfield cop! He took one look at me and I could tell he didn't like me much. He just stood there staring at me. As the show started the police started pulling people out of their seats who were smoking (I'm assuming) dragging them down to the entry where I was sitting and in some cases they threw them up against the concrete wall. At one point I couldn't take it anymore any my girlfriend and I got up and pushed our way into the packed walkway that went around the arena at our level. We finally found some empty seats where there were no police. Great show. Lousy reception committee.

The boys did wear wolves masks for Werewolves of London. One of THE highlights of all of my Dead shows.

Is there ANY way to get this concert on a CD?

Others have commented about the band being on mescaline, but let's just say that they were not the only ones. We managed to get down by the side of the stage and had a grand time making faces at Donna and Phil (who almost fell over backwards laughing at one point. I'm pretty sure he gave us a shout out at the end of the night). A night that will live forever.
