    And then there was....
Loser really ripped with Jerry in total control of his feedback and overall tone; very similar to the way he shred the Comes A Time, the night before in Hartford. Crazy, crazy nights back when 'Feel Like A Stranger' hadn't found its place in the setlist yet...On a personal note, hitched-hiked from Worcester with my best bud, Harold, and was promptly picked up by a couple in a an old Volvo. Took good care of us young'ns to the point where we were so high after the first set that we couldn't figure out how leave the GA floor and kept walking through a looping hallway that brought us back where we started. Some friends found us, and helped us get a ride back home, primarily so we wouldn't miss French class the next day. After which, we drove his mom's rig to Waban, then T to Boston Garden to polish off a sweet weekend. Sorry Ma, for missing mother's day, but...I really never was big on holidays. You should love your loved ones every day!

    Mama Tried
What, no "Mama Tried" here, I thought. Went to this show alone and I remember Garcia's feet -- both of them at once -- leaving the ground during Johnny B. Goode. He was on fire. Could not believe "Brokedown Palace" was the encore -- I hadn't been following the setlists from previous shows. It brought a tear. I have a photo of Jerry from this song somewhere....

Well gee I sure was high that evening, speed, acid and many a bone... About 30 feet off the stage a bit to the bands left, definitely the blow away zone. The Terripen that night stands in my mind as the best I saw/heard, ever. I was out of my body, and heard gorgeous shining, peaceful open space. The GDTRFB and Johnny B Goode were pure fire/power and almost took down the building. I was allowed to experience heaven on Earth during Brokedown (my first). Tears of joy and sorrow openly flowing,a first primal scream torn from my heart and soul. I'm sure the band heard it, and I imagine some folks around me didn't appreciate it, but I had no choice, it just came out and the moments were ultimately beautiful and life changing. A few days later my father died unexpectedly, and to this day I believe that unknown to me at the time that Brokedown was God giving me a glimpse of where my dad went and is now. Where we all return to.

this is where the odyssey began for me. i used to feel alone until i met all the deadheads who gathered. suddenly I realised tribe. ran to front row for the 1st set, but meandered back to chill for the second set. swaying bodies aligned...Terrapin! "And the whistle is screamin'" 125-130 shows later (who remembers?) I'm still on the bus going on 30 years now!
