Nice call Tiger Trance, I was just looking at the set list and asking myself where is that incredible Shakedown. So many songs. So many songs. I remember we parked underneath a raised highway. Everything looked old and dirty in that part of town then. Great times. The Stones were playing the next night in town. We went down to Cap Center instead. Woo Hoo!

This was my fifth show and
This was my fifth show and was where I really "GOT IT" completely. We were in the middle around the 15th row and spent the whole night dancing our asses off on those folding chairs. What a night! What a show (kinda like a greatest hits)! And what an interesting pre-drums song sequence.
My 2nd Show!!!!!!
Awesome Bertha, Morning Dew, and Playing in the band!!! Thanks Jim, Minnesota ,and Eric for being there with me.
The town was dead.
I remember the streets were being all dug up for replacement of water lines? or something? So there was no traffic.......No people walking the streets.......the town was dead. We missed our plane the next morning to NJ. Stuck in Buffalo airport for 12 hours on standby. In the late afternoon the Boys come walking up to the gate. There was like 50 (half asleep) deadheads amazed to see the the dead come walking up. They were all cool with the deadheads (except Billy) Signed autographs and took pictures. My brother was off goofing around in the airport and had the camera, so no pic's were taken......bummer! Someone asked Jerry what he though about Buffalo? "This town don't got no heart"
Hey Bobby, looks like you missed your plane too. (Bobby looks around) God, I hope not.
I went up to Brent and asked for his autograph...he looked at the cassette and told me to get one with one of his songs on it.........I dug threw my bag and found one.....he signed it. i still have it along with Bobby's on it.
They said their good-byes and off they went.
It was WELL worth missing our plane!!! A day, and show that I will charish forever!! And what a fucking show it was!!!
We ended up renting a staition wagon with Micki-O (the artist) and some hocky fan that also missed his plane.
Playin-Bertha!
Playin-Bertha! was really the highlight. Buffalo was really a "lame" town....especially after all the Deadheads left.
TAPER'S SECTION

The Bus Come By and I Got On......
my first gig - fondest memory is being in that dark, dank hallway, twirling dervishes bouncing me around like a pinball, when suddenly a stunning Stella grabbed ahold of me and we slowdanced to TLEO...
never did get her name ;-}

My first show!
I thought it was a really good show. Some friends talked me into going. I'm so glad they did. The next day we all went to see the
Rolling Stones at Rich stadium.
Too Much Fun
Had waaaaaay too much fun at the Dead show to make the Stones show starting at noon the next day (Journey and Thorogood - ? warmed up at that show). Great 2nd set....
My Fifth show also. Loved
My Fifth show also. Loved it. I was gripped when Phil was making the venue itself make sounds from the thunderous bass. I was holding onto th eupper deck rail and could feel the vibrations rattle through the iron bar. I was gripped!

Very strong show (wild 2nd
Very strong show (wild 2nd set) but in a shitty "War Memorial".... Long drive up to Buffalo.
This particular weekend
There were stadium shows up and down the east coast that weekend for the Stones and the Kinks as well as the Lehigh/Buffalo/Maryland marathon. I knew folks that did the trifecta, caught one show of each, but why would anyone go see the Stones or Kinks when a Grateful Dead show is an option? The aforementioned NY Thruway Rest Areas were surreal, but I most vividly remember that the doors of the Auditorium didn't open until very late. The throng was pressed against the building, the band was sound-checking inside, and many where I was thought we were already missing the show. Remember that recently Who fans were trampled to death at a show in Cincinnati. Where I was, the crowd outside was suffocating. I believe that the transition from hockey rink to concert venue might have contributed to the delay, but it seems that we were not allowed in to the building until nearly eight PM. Best of all was a fellow named Dancin' Dave convincing me that if I drove to Landover, he'd make sure I got a ticket.
This is where I got on the bus...
This was my fourth show, and this is where I 'got it'. Incredible show - the second set rocked from the word go. There was a Head taping the show behind us, we got his info and recieved the tapes a few weeks later. On the tape we can hear our friend George screaming "Holy shxx" when they start doing Morning Dew. Sadly we lost George a short time after this show. I've had soundboards of this show come my way since then, but have always held onto that audience copy just to hear the shear joy when the boys broke out Dew. Very nice memories.
This was the real thing!
This was one of the greats!! We need to get this show into circulation, all>>>>
whomever...
... didn't give this show five stars wasn't a real deadhead. I wore out two copies of this tape.
people express
We took the sunrise flight out of newark airport on people express airlines $38.00 round trip. and what a trip. when we reached cruising altitude the entire cabin filled wiyh that stinging aroma of the finest bud available promting the captain to get on the P.A. and request that smoking be "limited to cigarettes only".
Once in buffalo we were making our way to the statler hilton when we were approached by a local who asked us if we were going to see Jeffery Garcia. When we replied in the affirmative he suggested we head souf and be quick about it. Roger that. Not a nice chap at all.
So we made our way through what looked like armageddon to our hotel.
What a great show it was, one of the last "good ole" grateful dead shows in a sense. The road crew were late, the hockey game went into overtime and we got to watch the stage being assembled. well worth every minute. i obtained a soundboard decades later and confirmed what a smokin' show it truly was.
Back at the airport the next day we comandeered a vacant ticket counter and proceeded to access the computer and type out and post throughout the terminal the set list from the show to everyone's bewilderment.
What i would give for another go at that.
Buffalo 81
Third show and first roadtrip - 8 hours north from Jersey. Remember older tourheads talking about scaling the side of the building for entry. Thinking, wow, these folks are really into it. Who'd have thunk that be me shortly thereafter. Shakedown began and a rush to the floor drew all security away from us and able to hop down and score a 6th row chair. Boy were those nosebleed seats steep. It was good to get down and start groovin.
the bus came by and I got on
My first show. I'd never experienced such a thing as that mass of incredible people and Those Drumz thundering that cavernous building apart. Many years passed before I heard a copy of this show or saw the setlist, but it made me immediately grateful that this was my first cannonball into the pool.
one of the best shows
they added this show maybe a week before they played. the stones were playing the next day at rich stadium.to me i always thought the dead did the show to show the stones up. and fucking did . best show of the weekend . kinks played Thursday . dead sat, stones sunday. best shakedown street ever.
Buffalo 81
My first show. I was 18 and from Canada. Was fascinated with the river like flow of heads up & down the isles. Everyone stood on their chairs on the floor of the Aud. The band would turn towards their amps & tune for many minutes between songs as deep blue and green lights would flood the stage.
