Sounds like I'm not alone here: my last show - I was done. There was high demand, so the Dead tacked on one more show to the end of the tour; we lived in Orlando, so I was compelled to attend - it woulda been weird not to, with the 4 old-pal Deadheads staying at our place. Wish I'd stayed home: the scene had changed dramatically and I didn't want any part of it anymore, except for the music and my misty watercolor memories of the way we were. Thank god for the friends I made and tapes (of course, it had started to turn to CDs then). The fan (I won't say Deadhead, cuz this seems unlikely) who died at this show was fucked up on nitrous and pills, he passed out into a pond and drowned. What used to be inspiring and refreshing had become edgy and commercial. The Orlando run was a bitter way to drop out of seeing the Dead live. Once the stadium shows started, Deadheads were overwhelmed by party-seekers; there were a few converts to the cause, but it just tainted the whole thing for me. In short: GET OFF MY LAWN ;-]
My first show
First and only Grateful Dead show I attended. Real action was in the parking lot though some highlights:
* Black kid on the skateboard with a nitrous balloon, just before the cops made the nitrous guy empty his tank
* Taking a bath in the Bob car fountain
* 10 hits of bunk acid I bought from a head selling “kind massages”
