unusual happenings
We always seemed to experience weird or unusual things on days of Dead concerts, and this occasion was a lovely example. I was about 4 months pregnant with my first child, and felt the baby move for the first time shortly before the show began! The delicate fluttering like a butterfly inside me continued during the show (and of course thereafter!) Quite memorable.
Touch of Grey
I have always loved the Touch of Grey from this show. It's got a slightly different intro and a slightly different beat. It is the only version I have ever heard that sounds like this.
The Playing>Terrapin and Dew out of the drums are huge on this one. I saw most of this tour and this show has always been one of my favorites, despite the fact that a very, very drunk serviceman decided to explode right before the second set started. It took at least 2 Va. State Troopers to pull him out of the crowd on the floor. It was one of the ugliest scenes I ever saw on the floor of a GD show, but the music made me all but forget about it.
First show blues...
I guess I got a little too over-anxious at this, my first show, gobbling anything and everything of a hallucinogenic nature that was offered me. This unfortunately included WAY, WAY too many mushrooms at the break that caused everything after the start of "Playin" to be absent from the memory banks. Lots of other bad trip unpleasantness, but I'll spare the other details. The show sounds darn good on tape, though...
"I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy."
second show whatta night
to be 15 years old and that high again, well whatta time, pretty much got me hooked for a good while!!
playing in the sand
seems that somewhere during playing in the band at this gig, i finally understood what the grateful dead were all about. the grand metaphor and all that. heady stuff for a 19 year old-- to be part of a continuum. the culture now seems mostly characterized by its disconnectedness. ahistorical. badly adrift.
Experienced a Classic KiLLer Morning Dew
Cub (me) Tully Scott n Ginz to I think.
This show was the start of the Northeast Spring Tour.
Still at the Sheraton but the new Red Roof looked happening too.
We had all planed to be in Rochester, Niagraa Falls and more.
Jonathan Lane???
Am I the only one for whom every single attendee at each one of his/her shows is listed as Jonathan Lane? Just wondering...
