This was my first show. My
This was my first show. My life was never the same after that night. It was when I got on the bus. That sociologist from UNC Greensboro was doing field studies of the Deadhead community. I met some truly amazing people that night. I felt like I had come home.
Venue + scene = SSDD
This stop on the fall tour had a great laid back atmosphere, & the venue was tiny. The surrounding community welcomed the scene, it was so melow.
I had a decent seat for this show, but the band set up speakers in the hallway, & the energy was really high. I even remember a massage chain broke out during the set break.
The show didn't have a lot of meat on it's bones, but it was quality of quantity. The Bertha Jack Straw opener, I can still hear it, but the Row Jimmy, oh man. It was like rolling on a river boat. Jerry's voice melded into his soul. it's still my favorite from the tour. It's also my favorite Birdsong from that tour. Jerry & Bob were in sync almost like they were in a church. It was so beautiful. Then the boys lifted the roof with Promised Land. The second, more of the same. The China->Rider was top notch, so to was Looks Like Rain. Then they took us home. Pretty typical, but really good, especially the Knockin' encore.
Hospitality
Never forget limping into Greensboro in a broke down vehicle and a tent to sleep in, but met some students from UNC that had dorms that they weren't staying in and just let us stay there. Gave us the key and said have fun. See you at the show.
Best show I ever went to. For all sorts of reasons.
my first "no show" (no ticket)
I got in the other night, but this was my first tag-out/lock-out. I had a lot more sympathy after this night for the miracle people.
Cops were using the "magic ears" to listen in to private conversations. They were definitely out to get us.
