Shakedown was slammin'
Loved the first set. Will always put that Shakedown against the more well known monsters. I was awestruck and beyond...Cheers!

“The Omnipotent Grateful Dead!”
These Philly shows were sort of bunk
Not terrible, but not as good as they look on the page.
Maiden Voyage
This was my first Dead show. I was in art school and a friend had a ticket but had to work a new job bartending so I went with his buddy. I can't say I remember the specific songs but the overall experience is so deeply imbedded in my psyche. Maybe one of the most intense public experiences of my life, even to this day, and I've lived in Africa. That moment when the entire audience and the band suddenly clicks into synchronous telepathic unity, like a bolt of lightning in the skull, was truly mind blowing and awesome. And fun. Even though the vocals were a little shakey on a couple tunes, this show was very impressive, especially Jerry's guitar magic.
I caught them a couple more times in Philly in the 90's, and though they were giving it their all they seemed to be struggling; maybe Jerry was already sick and the band was tired. So glad I got to see them in relatively excellent shape jamming like mofos. Peace.
