Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have music from 1970, 1979 and 1982.
Our first selection is from the Grateful Dead's penultimate gig in the state of Hawaii on 6/12/70 in Honolulu. From this show, we have the monstrously good version of That's It For The Other One. These two shows in Hawaii were plagued with sound problems (Bear couldn't leave California), but when things settled down, the band and tapes sound great.
Next up is music from 12/10/79 in Kansas City, featuring the end of the first set quartet of songs, with Dancing In The Street>Franklin's Tower, Looks Like Rain>Deal. That is the last Dancing In The Street until 7/7/81, also in Kansas City, when the Dead played the last-ever version of the Disco arrangement of Dancing In The Street. When they brought it back in 1984, they were back to the Martha and the Vandellas arrangement.
Our last selection this week is from 7/31/82 at Manor Downs in Austin, TX. From this excellent show, we have the start of the first set, featuring Alabama Getaway>Promised Land, Candyman, El Paso, Bird Song, Little Red Rooster.
Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.
