Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we're going to check out some Grateful Dead music from 1971, 1973 and 1977
Our first selection this week is from the Harding Theatre in San Francisco on 11/6/71, the first night of a two night run at this beautiful venue, where the Dead only played in 1971. From this show, we have That's It For The Other One>Comes A Time. This show was Keith Godchaux's first Bay Area appearance with the Grateful Dead, and in the pre-social media days, it must have been a shock to see the Dead in their hometown without Pigpen, and with a new piano player.
Next up is just a single song from 12/10/73 in Charlotte, Playing In The Band, just because we love a good 1973 Playing In The Band around these parts.
Lastly this week is music from 10/29/77 in DeKalb, IL, featuring the end of the first set: New Minglewood Blues, It Must Have Been The Roses, Let It Grow. This show was part of a short but extremely good tour that ran 10/28 through 11/6/77, and featured great music every night. Very different than the Spring Tour of 1977, but just as good, and at times even more adventurous.
Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.
