Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have Grateful Dead music from 1973 and a double dose of mid-80s Dead.
Our first selection is from the middle night of a three night in Boston, the first of third of which were produced into Dick's Picks Vol. 14. From this middle night, we have an interesting jam sequence of Space > Not Fade Away > Black Peter > Playing In The Band>Uncle John's Band>Playing In The Band, Row Jimmy from 12/1/73.
From a decade later on 10/21/83 in Worcester, MA, we have the start of the second set, featuring Scarlet Begonias>Fire On The Mountain, Uncle John's Band>Playing In The Band. We hope you don't mind the repeats from the previous selection, but with 10 years separating the performances, they're pretty darn different.
Lastly this week is the entire first set of the 4/8/85 show at the Spectrum in Philadelphia, featuring In The Midnight Hour > Walking The Dog > Big Boss Man ; Me And My Uncle > Cumberland Blues ; Down In The Bottom > I Ain't Superstitious ; Althea ; Tons Of Steel > Supplication > Might As Well. There's quite a bit of unique and rare material here, from a tour on which the Dead were taking lots of chances like this.
Be sure to join us here next week for more tunes from the vault.
