We’re going to be doing some jumping around the calendar this week, to play you some music we didn’t get a chance to play for you the past few weeks.
First, as we’re always interested in playing unique sequences and segues, we’ll pop into 1980 for a quick stop on 10/2/80 at the Warfield in San Francisco. From this very good show is the interesting third set opening sequence of Drums>Comes A Time>Lost Sailor>Saint of Circumstance.
Next up, we’ll jump ahead 14 years, to 1994, specifically the very good Fall Tour. From 10/1/94 in Boston, we have the second set opener, Scarlet Begonias>Fire On The Mountain, and from a few nights later on 10/5/94 in Philadelphia, the very unique second set opening combination of Midnight Hour-Cumberland Blues.
From the Fall Tour of 1976, specifically 9/30/76 in Columbus, OH, we have the second set opening Lazy Lightning>Supplication.
Jumping back a bit to 1972, here are two songs from the 4/7/72 show at Wembley Empire Pool (subsequently Wembley Arena) in London, Chinatown Shuffle and a rocking Me and My Uncle. Bobby wasn’t kidding when he said about these two Wembley shows in 1972, “man, we played like demons at those shows.”

WARNING: Whiner comment ahead- I was dumbfounded when Dick's Picks chose 10/14/83 instead of the next night. And now it's ignored again. That 2nd set is one of the best of the 80's. The China>Rider seethes, the Playin wind down into China Doll is exquisite and space>St. Stephen is one of the great exhaltations of all time. And you'll love the Brokedown ending.
Oh well, must be just me......

you could not be more spot on IMO I was at the garden on 10/11 and 10/12, and the hartford shows the climax of space into stephen the second time was almost beyond this realm. and if you listen to the first stephen there are points, or a point at which they kind of fall apart so I always felt like they intended to do it only once but didn't nail it so they did it again, and in hartford they nailed it! nice description of the first part of the 10/15 set it's right on
10/14 & 15
I saw both the 10/14 & 15/83 & 84 Hartford shows. I remember quite clearly at the time that 10/14 was overall the better show, but seeing St. Stephen (especially when Phil stepped to Bobby's mike to sing "fortune comes a calling line" was the all time highlight of 31 shows. The real puzzle, as far as DP goes is why put such a lame recording of 10/14/83 set one out there at all. I would have put set 2 from 10/14 and all of 10/15 (have it on SBD, first set holds up just fine).
Following year, same two shows are quite good, 10/14/84 has some one of a kind sound effects tacked on to Bobby's playing, and 10/15 has one of the most spacey Playins' in the 80's, all well worth seeking out.

it's coming up to that anniversay week..10 31 70 state university of ny 'stoney brook' 2nd set....viola lee > cumberland MAJIC 20 minutes dancin toviola then out of nowhere (still can't hear the seque clue) cunberland is into it's 2nd verse MAJIC!!!! if ol' dave dosen't supply a good copy here search it out....gans did a later (#960?)gdhour highlighting that set....

Somewhere in the middle of this discussion there was talk/speculation about some kinda upcoming release. I hear that Veneta DVD is pretty crisp, maybe almost fully cooked by now?!?!?
