How about books about the Dead (especially the newest- Grateful Dead Gear) and another just about books-other than Dead related. There are a lot of literate foks here who share many of the same interests and inspirations. I know I am not the only one here who lives in the world of poetry, music, art and nature. thanks for your comment, Sunnydrop. We didn't set up new topics for a week or so there while we were waiting for things to settle down a little after the initial start up. You'll be seeing new topics popping up this week (check out MaryE's awesome note with the links and all!) and in the future. Please keep the suggestions coming! And be grateful for MaryE's discretion, else there would have been a topic called simply, Pee Songs.

My sugguestion is you need more threads per forum. For instance, in the "I'm Looking For..." forum, if you are not going to allow people to start threads, then at least start a few yourself.. one for "Looking for old Tour Friends, another for looking for a show, looking for misc.. ect. Thank you :) "The bus came by and I got on, that's when it all began.."

Folks, really. I don't make this stuff up. There is nothing in the current software that will allow us to create some areas with open topic-creation, and some areas with moderated topic creation. There is no function within the software that will set limits, like X number of topics per day/week/lifetime. And there isn't an automatic roll-over or nukage function. MaryE and I will keep talking about it with the rest of the admin team.

It would be nice if there was a location (folder, discussion) JUST for casual conversation. Maybe that could be the area where subscribers are able to post new topics. But first I think "we" need to clarify whether all discussions are designed to last forever, or if some discussions will "roll over" if volume is too high (for instance, a 10,000 message limit, after which the discussion archives and begins again with a new message #1) Or perhaps a time factor - if a discussion has NO messages in a given time (30 days, 3 months, a year) it archives, or disappears completely. I know that people really want to be able to post new topics, but it shouldn't result in what we called "ensuction" over in DNC - when the site became so unwieldy partly because of the huge volume of messages, and huge chunks of the site just started disappearing.

The Winterland June 1977 box set forum is starting to fill up with posts about people's home sound systems and a wider discussion seems to be desirable to some. Is there a separate forum for this? If so, where is it and if not, could such a forum be started. In either case, a quick post on the Winterland forum would be helpful to steer people in the right direction.

I noticed when I was pre-ordering the Road Trips Volume 3 Number 1 that if you leave your shopping cart for any reason before checking out there is absolutely no way to get back to it unless you purchase another item and then delete it from you cart. That is is a really big omission. It really reflects badly. That's a basic feature every e-commerce site has - a View Shopping Cart button. It doesn't have to be on every frame maybe just on the home page or the store page - but come on.

Hi Marye; Sam Cutler, former tour manager for the Grateful Dead and The Rolling Stones, has just had his wonderful book released in North America, and he is doing a book tour right now. I have his itinerary, and would like to post it somewhere appropriate, so that people interested in hearing these amazing stories from someone who was directly involved will have a chance to do that! Sam is a wonderful man, and we are SO fortunate to have people like him still with us to tell these early Grateful Dead stories in their own voice. If you could let me know the best place to post his US schedule I'd be very grateful. Thank you~ Wendy

Hello future: I am looking to spread the positive vibrations we all are capable of to everyone and everything. It is hard to put in words, maybe you should look into my group called Moving Forward. I am networking with alike minds to start a revolution of change in our world. It is all about thinking positive, doing positive, and spreading the positive. If there's nothing but good vibes going around, the greed and instinct will be beaten down and move on to feed elsewhere. I have a lot of methods of practice, my main goal is to show and spread it through music. The wall I must knock down is the discrimination fellow music lovers have against each other. It is amazing how someone can pass judgement on what kind of sound waves your body enjoys. This goes along with all the hate and greed in our world. Lack of communication is a main reason behind all of this. I am not the best with my words, but the idea is that once everyone sees they did not generate this hate against their own kind, they will notice it everywhere. Once it's exposed we can spread our peace and make the world beating only positive vibrations, moving us forward. Thanks for your time to hear me. the lack of jazz and improvised/experimental music in the Dead/jamband/festival/community scene.want to banish obscurity, estimated-eyes? want to become more aware of what's out there? encourage publications, festival promoters and bands to investigate, add to the bill, take out on tour and support. if the audience decides that they're not going for it and it doesn't work for them, fine. but give them the option to hear it. Furthur, Mickey, 7 Walkers and those like-minded fellow musical travelers: buy a copy of The Wire magazine (the Dead, you have lifelong friend and supporter of all things Grateful in Editor Chris Bohn, also writes under the name Biba Kopf); check out ubuweb.com. visit spaces like the Empty Bottle in Chicago; The Stone in New York, Cafe Oto in London, SuperDeluxe in Japan. we don't necessarily need to hear something championed in Relix Magazine as a special guest; we don't necessarily need to hear the same kinda artists as support act. i am more than happy to send cdr's of music and cover postage at my own cost; links and sites of interest. this isn't condescension. this isn't to patronise. it is an open letter to whoever is listening to encourage a less incestuous musical family. too bad that long gone are the days when Charles Lloyd, Charles Mingus or Miles Davis were on the same bill as a psychedelic rock band. '60's cross-pollination reduced to back-slapping and inbred blowjobs. even....EVEN, an jazz artist already known to the majority of Dead Heads; David Murray. his recent projects with the Gwo Ka Masters and excursions into Cuban ensembles; a short tour with Furthur? how on earth is that not possible?

I'm working on a documentary about the trip that I made with a friend of mine to this one day festival that was held at Pyramid Lake, Nevada at the end of the summer of 1986 and I thought this would be a good place to connect with other folks who were at the event.

It was quite a day! I discovered Steve Kimock at that event and really enjoyed all contributions from John Cipollina throughout the day. Too bad Bob Weir couln't play his guitar because of his broken arm. I have some photos from this event but not on my computer. Perhaps I will digitalize them sometime soon. one thing i feel rather strongly about is everyone on dead.net talking and engaging more in the "In Memory..." topic. maybe not so much when artists or musicians etc. are mentioned, as these can be personal posts, but when fellow Heads and Kynd folk connected to the scene need help and positive energy i think it's our duty as a community to stick together and cast a healing light towards those most in need. please spare a thought and be there for others who desperately need our healing and who require help.

Dylan Carlson is creating his first major solo project outside of earth. There will be a limited edition lp/dvd/book and cd/dvd/book(500 of each format) and a special pressing of 150 copies(lp only) with personalized ex libris by Simon Fowler (Who will also do the cover and end papers). The illustrations will be by Kiyo Lappalainen. The limited edition books will be pop-up style. There will also be an open edition with regular flat printing in a cd booklet and flat lp printing. The recording will combine field recordings from various megalithic and other sites of human/fairy encounters across the UK, also the use of ritual and folkloric magical practices. The expedition will be filmed by Clyde Petersen. These recordings will be layered with Dylan's interpretations of classic Scotch-English ballads about human/fairy encounters from early modern England and Scotland(15th-18th century). It will also feature guest vocalists to sing the songs. This is not being done through a label, as earth's output has, but is a labor of love/obsession of Dylan's. Being primarily of Scotch-English descent, this is an historical journey to his personal and cultural past, embracing music/folklore/the occult dimension and history. This is also result of personal experience's of 'the other side'. His blog, http://drcarlsonalbion.wordpress.com/ has details, if interested. The field recordings will be accomplished in April-May of 2012. The rest of the recording/mastering will be finished in summer and early fall, the artwork is an ongoing process, already begun. Dylan is planning to have it all done for a May 2013 release. Join in the restoration of magic, a return to a world of spirits. Where all objects have a will of their own and a language they speak in, and we have learned how to speak with them again. It will be titled "Coleman Grey presents 'Falling with a Thousand Stars and Other Wonders from the House of Albion'."

"Grateful dead, in folktales of many cultures, the spirit of a deceased person who bestows benefits on the one responsible for his burial. In the prototypical story, the protagonist is a traveler who encounters the corpse of a debtor, to whom the honor of proper burial has been denied. After the traveler satisfies the debt, or, in some versions, pays for the burial, he goes on his way. In another version of the story, burial is prescribed for religious reasons but prohibited by civil authorities. It is this version that forms the theme of the apocryphal Book of Tobit in the Old Testament. The hero is soon joined by another traveler (sometimes in the form of an animal, or, in the story of Tobit, an angel), who helps him in a dramatic way. In some stories the companion saves the hero’s life; in others he helps him gain a prize. In many versions, the companion offers to aid the hero, but only on condition that they divide the prize. Then, as the hero is about to comply, the companion reveals himself as the grateful spirit of the deceased whom the hero helped to bury." From the Encyclopedia Britannica **** The mind boggles with the possibilities.

I have had just an awful experience with the hawkers selling the "official" Fare Thee Well merchandise. So I am on here to warn anyone that may be considering buying some. Let me start by saying that they allow no negative reviews! If you are not happy with the quality of the items being sent out, they refuse to post your review! I've been round and round with them over this, even suggesting they are doing themselves a disservice by setting them up for more dissatisfied customers. The size of the hoodie runs small, I went to post that in a review because they keep telling folks in the questions section that "they run true to size"... and they repeatedly refused to post my review. Yes they offered an exchange but folks need to know the facts so they can order accordingly! I can go on with more issues and details if anyone cares but wanted to get the conversation out there as there has already been talk on other forums about it. It is a shame such a good band gets hooked up with such questionable merchandising companies! Peace!

Here's the one and only negative review that Fare Thee Well Merch posted, now they are censoring them and refusing to post honest but disappointed reviews... Chris Verified Reviewer  07/22/15 Fare Thee Well Merch Owes a Statement to it's Customers! With thousands of damaged Fare Thee Well prints from incompetent shipping practices, folks are looking for answers as to what your company is going to do about it. From people that spent $30, to people that spent thousands, Faretheewellmerch is simply not replying to emails and not answering phone calls. It's time that you take responsibility and address this group of people as to what EXACTLY you're going to do to make things right!

Love to have a forum or discussion thread about the great audio gear to listen to our beloved band.
